So my car wouldn't start very well in the rain. I replaced the spark plug cables, plugs, distributor cap, and rotor. It worked flawlesly for a day, then the next day (another wet day) it started no problems, went about 300 metres from my house and the enginejust died (check engine light came on at the same time as I was pulling my car over to the side of the road in neutral).


Now when I go to crank it, it's a strong enough cranking (so I'm positive it's not the battery) but yet sounds weak, if that makes any sense. Meaning it sounds like "whirring", but no "chugga chugga"?!?!


IS that the sound of a fried ignition coil? ignitor? Again I doubt it's to do with the starter motor as the problem occured while driving.


Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

i would be suspect of that distrubiter and/or 1 of its seals
if that cap gets wet you will not get spark where it needs to go.
when you try to restart the engine do you still have that check engine light or did it go out?

if the light is on then look under the pass seat and count the flashes to pull up the indicated code.

if a puddle is all it take to wash out your ignition system. check to see if the splash panel is under the front of the car, if its missing find 1 and reinstall it.

did the gasket go back in between the cap and the distrubiter?

are your spark plug tubes filling with water?
