First things first, if your car is a special edition than it should be an ls se non vtec, unless someone modified the car previously. however, if you want to check then heres what you do; start by opening up the drivers side door and looking at the sticker attached to the rear quarter panel, this sticker will tell you what model the car is. as for the vtech, that's even more simple to find out, if your car is an automatic then it's a non-vtec (there was never an automatic vtec built in the states). you could also pop the hood and check both the valve cover gasket and engine code to see if it's a vtech. the valve cover gasket should say VTEC if it is a vtec and the engine code should be either a b18c1 or b18c5.
