The speedometer bounces first, then the drive(4) lights starts blinking. Took it to the shop today, but the place I went to suggest I have the transmission check. Would like a second opinion.

There are sensors in the transmission. When the PCM detects a problem with the sensor data, it flashes the D4 indicator. The D4 indicator will also display a code when the diagnostic connector is shorted. You need to get the manuals for the car to interpret the codes.

If D4 is flashing, you have a problem. How many miles on the car?

Thanks for responding. My acura has 225K miles. Otherwise, it runs fine.

That is a lot of miles! Do you notice any thing strange about the way the transmission shifts? Have you checked the fluid? Have you kept the transmission serviced and changed the fluid (it is a drain and fill operation required every 30K mile on the 95 Ledend)? What gear is the transmission in when the warning occurs and how fast are you traveling?

Don't have AAMCO work on it, they lack both the knowledge base and the quality parts to do the repairs correctly. I know from sad experience. Spending a couple hundred dollars at a reputable dealer might be a good investment.

Keep us posted 91, let us know what you find out.

Yes, I do notice just a slight surge in the transmission. Because of mileage and age, I dismissed as old age.

I can't recall the last time the transmission was flushed or changed, but I have found a reputable transmission shop in San Diego to take it to. (Not AAMco)

Thank you again for your advice.

Will keep you posted.

Dude, what kind of car do you have. If it's a legend 91-95, you need to replaced the speed sensor. There is a kit to fix it. Just ask the dealer for a speed sensor kit. You will not find it in a parts store. only dealer.

Yup its the VSS, it bounces because it is taking in AC and not properly converting it to dc for the speedo to read.Very common in honda/acs.
