Broken Camshaft
#1
97 2.2 CL, std tran, 95k miles.</span> My son's car, he drove it to school, then would not start after school. He tried jumper cables (didn't need to, engine was turning over anyway, just not starting). Left car overnight in the lot, next morning wife had AAA check it out. They could not start the car, was towed to shop. Shop says "broken camshaft</span>". Does this make sense to anyone? Son reports car drove fine on the way to school, nothing unusual. How/when could the camshaft break? Anyone hear of this engine ever having a camshaft problem?

nope not me the only cams i have seen break were in V6 nissans
but a broken timing belt yes.
im sure there test was a fast 1 where they tested for spark and found none
then they pulled the distrubiter cap and saw that the rotor did not turn.
a non turning dist is caused by a cam that is not spinning or a sheared dist sfaft or a timing belt.
that 2.2 may not have a distrubiter and if thats the case a scan of the cam position sensor would result in the same answer.
eithor way broken cam/ timing belt.
will have the result of a bent valve or 8
that means 1000-1500 in repairs
replaceing the head or having it rebuilt,
make sure that they replace the water pump and front crank seal if that is the repair they are doing.
P.S. i really hope im wrong and there wrong too and all you need is a 60 buck relay

Sounds good acuralegend If the cam is broken, than you could have a bad oil filter or a oil pump that producing little presure. Seen it once on a 2000 Accord. Don't matter much why, time swap the engineEdited by: acuratech

Took the car to the usual shop... they are replacing the camshaft for free,
looks like something got messed-up when they recently replaced the timing
belt. Well, wasn't that recent, was over a year ago. Haven't got the full story
from them yet on what exactly happened.
