Newbie say hello.and One Engine Question.
< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" =text/> </>Hi guys, I am a new member Plus a new 2008 TL owner. I just got mine yesterday, and have 40 miles so far, i am totally confused about how to drive first 1000 miles.after some search, i became even more confused, should I drive it like its stolen or should i just go easy , and whats up with these RPM's what number RPM's i should not go beyond? I know i should avoid freeways and specially cruise control.
I think , The way I am , I wont be harsh on it at all, but also dont wanna baby it so much ,i'm afraid i wont set piston/rings the right way.
Sales person said just drive it like u normally drive and just dont use cruise control, Thats all.
So, I wont go for harsh driving, but i still need some help and tips , how to drive . do's and dont's.
Thank you in advance

nice looking car
drive the car like your going to be driving it your whole life.
if thats like you stole it so be it.
if the dealer said drive it a certain way then by all means do so.
engine break in habits are all vodoo anyway.
top fuel dragsters engines get rebuild on the track and get 0 break in then is max rpm max HP and look out.
nascar motors get a dyno tune with little to no break in and that break in aint gentle
indy motors are the same.
no race motor that i know of gets run and low rpm for any break in time in order to improve its power and performance. (longer than 1 warm up cycle anyway).
so drive it like your going to for the rest of its life.
if there is some myth to breakins. then at least your motor is set for your style.

Sorry, but comparing a new production car engine to ANY race car engine is just nuts! Sure, those motors aren't broken in but they also aren't meant to run after 500 miles, or 1/4 mile in the case of Fuel cars.
I've owned many new cars over the last 30+ years of driving and can tell you that the break in is really no big deal. The initial engine break in (rings, etc)was done before you ever took to the keys. Also, there is no "set for your driving style" in a motor. Would I pull it out of the car lot screaming at redline with the tires smoking? Of course not. Just drive the car and have fun with it.
