Broken Ignition Slot - Car insists that key fob is inserted
The title says it all. On my 2010 TL SH AWD, a recently weak battery caused me to have to insert the fob into the ignition slot to start the car. This resulted in a small broken black plastic piece emerging from the slot. That piece obviously was responsible for somehow releasing the internal mechanism that lets the car know that the fob is inserted. As a result, the car insists that I have to "remove the keyless remote from the ignition slot." This means that locking and unlocking the car via the fob is disabled since the car is trying to prevent me from locking the fob in the car. Certainly I can lock doors manually with the rockers and use the key blade form the fob to lock the driver door last. But my big concern is that the computer isn't truly putting all of the modules to sleep now and I'll wind up with a dead battery in a day or 2. I'm also wondering how difficult it is to replace the ignition port itself and the cost of such a replacement. I am unable to move anything inside the slot (I have tried repeatedly) or push anything to get this to disengage.
