Replace timing belt at 42K miles?
Hi Folks,
I need some advice - my Acura dealer and two mechanics recommended that I replace the timing belt on my 1999 Acura RL with only 42000 miles on the odometer. The owner's manual says change it after 84 months or 105K miles; I was hoping to get a few more miles on the car before facing this $800 expense.
Any opinions? Thanks for your help.

Yes it is 84 months or 105k miles.. whichever comes first! Even with low miles, parts on a car will wear with age. So 84 months being 7 years.. you are 2 years overdue for that service and should replace it immediately (bad things happen to a motor when a timing belt snaps)
You should look over your entire service schedule also.. all scheduled maintenance will say xx months or xx miles and it is always whichever comes first

If the dealers and mechanics are recommending it then you should seriously think for it. If in few more miles it gets worse than you will be surrounded by more money expense. So go and have it done.
