HI was an owner of a 1990 first generation legend coup. Now I' m BACK.

I just bough a 1999RL with 53,500 miles, dealer serviced from mile onean garaged.

The maintenance records reflect oil changes just about every three thousand miles with filter replacement as well. also air filters replaced an cleaned as per schedule. the oil input area is free of anysludge so I guess the engine is clean. The car was driven byto and from work 6miles one way. My question do youthink ifI switch from dino oil to synthetic under these circumstances oil leaks my occur ? Or do you think the seals are to old or there is to many miles to do this safely ? Do youknw what your talking about LOL

The othe more important issue is with the tranmission nothing is wrong at this point but Honda's in general and this year Acura in particular apprently have a tranny issue which I read Acura will back for 7 years or 100,000 miles. some bolt may come loose inside tranny and cause problems.Does anyone have a tranny issue and if so how were you treated by Acura/Honda?based on my reading the dealer service records this appears to be a relable car my generation1 was a great ride.

Hope I have as good luck with this beauty.

regards

Scott

synthetic oil in the engine is a AWSOME IDEA change out that PCV valve and you should be good to go...

I do not recommend converting that transimiision over to synthetic.

have its oil changed and have a inline filter installed asap.
your right about what you have heard about this transmission.
its a problem child.
and yes loose blots happen.
to bad it costs the same to have it checked now as it would after it blew up

i would service the transmission every year with a new filter...doing so will make it last almost forever.

I would recommend doing this to ALL honda/acura automatic transmissions of all years.

Always remember that the acrua/honda engines are designed to use a petroleum based oil and not synthetic. Although a synthetic oil will not harm the engine it is an over kill and wasted money. On the transmission - only use the Honda ATF. it has additives for the honda transmissions. As other products will might cause shift issues. Im not trying to down synthetic's, but they are not needed on some models.

the new RDX is an example of using synthetic. it is designed to use it. it uses moble 1.
