Aftermarket Computers
#1
There is an aftermarket computer called a ScanGauge, which gives some of the functions of a Prius dashboard display (not all, certainly).
Whatever else I get out of driving my 140-mph '92 Coupe 5-speed, one of the things that stokes me about the car is its clearly-thought-out design and efficiency as a mechanical object. I am therefore a fan of increasing mileage and knowing what the heck I am doing from moment to moment.
However, the ScanGauge site says their product will work on 1996 and later cars, as it plugs in to something called an OBD-II connection not, they say, available on my car.
Are they right? Is there another way to hook up such a device? Does one exist outside of the ScanGauge?
Thanks.
Don.

i have a 91 coupe, i too have OBD 1. almost all vehicles above 1993 should have OBDII. OBDII is a different computer, this one you can get into and change, like using a scanner to chase trouble codes. OBDI you have to go by lights on the dash board to correct codes.
And i'm pretty sure that a computer that is meant for OBDII will not work for OBDI since they are different

I have an apexi safcll in my 93 legnd and it works awsome. my car didnt run right because of all the mods (mostly cams)but with an adujustable fuel pressure reg and the safc its fine now. I used to pop check engine lights but now it rarly happens if ever. Just make sure you have it dyno tuned because there is no other way to make sure you tuned it right. Thats the only drawback to getting the safc but dyno tuning isnt too expensive and you can see results.
