My 1994 legend is having a smell when I open the door in the morning. I took to four different mechanics and they said that they did not smell anything. I took to the dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong with the smell. It smells like an exhaust inside the car and makes me gag everytime I am driven.

My personal mechanic took me that it was not a Catalytic converter because it did not rattle inside the exhaust pipe. We did smell test from end-to-end and did not see any leakage. I removed the EGV and checked whether the spring was working and seemed everything working fine. I tried to disconnect to Evaporator Canister and run for awhile and still smelled the exhaust. I checked and replaced the A/C filter. I am thinking to remove the Gas Tank and see whether those Evaporator valves are working properly. Engine is running fine.

Is there any one having the same problem? please help. Thanks.

vapor can not working should cause a fuel smell and a check engine light.



you have a rear facing exhaust tip.

by chance are the seals on the trunk lid bad? allowing fumes to roll inside???



IMO any leak that would be noticable by smell inside would also be detectable with ones ear. outside even the EGV/EGR system



Now a air conditioning evaporator with a hole in it can gas r134 coolent inside. and man that stuff reaks too.



and last note. a upper engine oil leak, leaking onto the
exhaust may fume into the climate controll area and cause a stink.

I experienced that before and it was a minor fix. I had a bad fuel injector in the rear of the engine. Itr took the mechanic less than an hour to fix, (provided he have the part) and the cost was less than $200. There has been no problems with the smell of fuel since

 

Thanks. I will check the A/C evaoprator for leakage. Other options that you had mentioned I already checked thoroughly in the Summer and there was no leak.
