ok, i have been having this problem ever since my thermo had gone out. My Temp gauge is acting weird. When i start the car and it starts to warm up the gauge goes to or near the red. When i drive it stays above the red about 3-4 lines. I have replaced the temp sender unit and the temp gauge sensor 2 times. Still having the problem. The car is not even hot its at normal operating temp. Could the gauge be bad? If can help let me know. Thanks john

Eeep well for the sake of your engine i hope the sender or the gauge is bad

have the sender tested.

then have the gauge tested.

im betting the wire to the sender got pinched and is shorted to chassis

Both the sender and the sensor are brand new but, before i replaced the bad thermostat it would ride 3 notches before half and them climb alittle after at a stop. Well, i found out that the thermostat was stuck closed. But, ever sense i changes the thermostat it went weird. The gauge works cause it stays below half for about 20 min then it goes and rides 3 notches above the red. So, what im thinking is if the everything is good and the gauges is tripping out then i would think the gauge needle is messed up. So, i might go to the junk yard and try one of those and if that doesnt work ill do an sftermarket.

i will see if i can come up with a gauge test for you before spending cash where it isn't needed.

something that may also check those wires.
