Hey Guys,

I'm new here and don't really know a lot about cars so was hoping that I would be able to get some expert advice.

Occationally my car will die when I am driving it. Over the last 4 days it has done this 4 times. I am unable to see and condition similarities:

1 -Driving on the highway (110 km/h)Temp close to freezing

2 - Driving to work (60 - 70 km/h) Temp close to freezing

3- Driving to work (20-30 km/h) About +5 celcius

4 - Getting lunch (40km/h) about +7 degrees

When the car dies, there is no sputtering, it's a clean death. When the car dies, the tach drops to 0, the temp indicator slowly falls (just like when you turn off the car), I think that the spedometer still works, the engine light is NOT lit, the turn indicators do not work, the radio is working.

I can start the car up without a problem (knock on wood). The first time, the car started on it's own (likely due to the speed andthe engine still being in gear (Automatic)) The other times I put the trans into N and started her back up. She starts fine, and sounds normal when running.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I'm taking it into the dealer tomorrow, but I don't want to replace something if it's not the right part.

Thanks guys!!

I had the same problem. It was the main relay. The main relay has three circuits, one powers ignition, one powers fuel pump and other for fuel injection. I removed the relay, popped it open and cleaned all of the contacts oryou could just buy a new one. It is located in the dashboard near the steering column. There are other relays there, so I would advise using a manual with an electrical drawing to make sure that you find the right one. Good luck.

Thanks Mitch, from my research on the Internet, that seems like a likely cause. It's at the dealer right now... I'll post the results.
