<DIV>Hi this is my first post, and hopefully not the last</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I recently purchased a 1987 Acura Integra, I have a mechanic I frequent and after my last car crapped out I decided I'd look into an Integra.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>All the reviews I read gave it really good feedback</DIV>
<DIV>http://www.carsurvey.org/modelyear_A...egra_1987.html</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I figured it would be just a fun quick little car, and it is quick like a fox. I've been having a little trouble with it lately thoughin that I took it in to get the waterpump replaced and when I got it back I noticed whenever I shifted into neutral the idle speed would dip and bounce around a little and then just die.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I checked the distributor cap and it was just barely holding on, so i popped it off and bought a new one at Schucks, put it on and started the car up. Still has the same problem. </DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I called the mechanic to see what the problem was and he said that he had adjusted the idling speed some so I turned it up a little while i was just parked in my driveway, and i set it to idle at about 1500rpm's but it still dies if i actually drive the car and about 30mph and then shift into neutral. Every now and then it will stay alive if i downshift all the way to first and then slow the car down to a crawl and keep some pressure on the gas with the clutch in, but this was beginning to be a nuisance.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I googled the problem and the general consensus was that it was the Idle Air Control Valve. I popped it off and cleaned it out, but when I went to put it back together the plastic top wouldn't go back in. </DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I ordered a new IACV online thinking something must have been faulty with the first and put it on. Still dies</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I come here asking what's wrong with my car, have any of you had this problem? I'd like to be able to fix the car myself without calling my mechanic, but i can if need be.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>The car is a 1987 Integra LS 3 door</DIV>

<DIV>Your help is greatly appreciated</DIV>

WELCOME!

wheneverI bought an older honda, The first thing I did was replace spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Did you replace the rotor? thats the other half of the spark inside the cap. Remember to remove the power via the negativebattery cablebefore removing the rotor or it'll shock the crap out of you! Has your check engine light come on at all?Get a hanies manual so you can locate your ECU and check if the LED is blinking. It blinks in a code and the manual will tell you whats not working right.Good luck!

This car is fuel injected right?Edited by: AKinDen

<DIV>I did replace the rotor when i replaced the cap</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>it actually doesn't have a check engine light per se, but it does have a PGMFI light which is for the fuel injector</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>actually today as I was driving it it was able to shift into first from 3rd gear without needing to downshift into first, but then as I was waiting in line at a fast food restaurant it died and wouldn't start up at first, and then when it did the rpm's were bouncing around a lot</DIV>
