i bought a 98 acura cl 3.0 premium with an automatic transmission. beautiful car. transmission was out so i replaced it. put it all back together and when it shifts up through the gears, it free spins until you left off the gas and then it shifts hard. it does this EVERYtime it goes into 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. is this a sensor or solenoid??? would appreciated any help.

I have the same vehicle, and am very familiar with these symptoms. I work at a Honda dealership and it is well known where we work that the 98 Honda/Acura v6 automatic tranny's are crap. the bearings within the transmission wear out, shear apart, and the metal debris clogs the shift solenoid. I'm guessing you replaced your transmission with a junkyard or used transmission. The better choice would have been to have a shop rebuild it, or find one with less miles on it and expect it to happen again at 120000 miles.

 

Are the manual transmissions any better?
