As anyone experience certain body components becoming detached?

I took mine to a dealer on recent "Spare Key" issue from Acura, and like most of any dealers, after the updarte, they performed a courtesy car wash. Upon picking up the vehicle, I noticed A-Pillar facia mouldings that are attached on the either side of the front windshield were detached; the clips holding the mouldings obviously broke. The dealer of course offered to take care of them and quite frankly they were embarassed by the incident. I think they were embarassed that they didn't catch it before I did; had they noticed both of those mouldings being detached, they would have taken care of them without even telling me.

Has anyone out there felt that Acura's quality control in general has deteriorated?

Looking forward to your replies.

Greetings,

I was driving around the 495 Beltway here in DC at 0500 about 65mph when a fluttering sound began. As the sound came and went, I figured that a plastic bag was caught under the car. Ultimately, I stopped at McDonald's to get coffee and decided to do a walk-around of the car.

Sure enough the trim on the windscreen A-pillar, driver's side, had detached near the top of the roof line. Suffice to say I was a bit peaved (Japanese quality control is supposed to be better). Two of three clips came completely detached from the A-pillar.

I immediately called Pohanka Acura in Chantilly, VA and they advised that I was the 2nd person to have this issue - the other client had it happen after taking the car through a car wash - and that the part was on back-order (2-3 weeks) from Japan. Nonetheless, they asked me to call in a week for a status check and I did so. To my surprise the part came in a week later, they took my car for two days and made the repair, returned it with a full tank of gas and charged me nill.

I asked the CA if there would be TSB out, to which he replied that probably not - or at least not yet.

Hope that this is an aberration and not indicative of Acura's new craftsmanship. If so, I may sell the car and buy a Bimmer again.

I'm a bit surprised at this. My friend has a TSX and hasnt had any trouble with it at all. Maybe just the luck of the draw?

Of course the "luck of the draw" plays a large part in any product
purchase. For instance, many owners of let us say a Ford Explorer did not
suffer tire blow-out; the incidents that led to massive recall campaign by
Ford. Chrysler Jeep Liberty had issues with lower ball joints separating
from the control arm, which also led to recall campaigns. On both of
these, I am sure that there are owners who experienced "no trouble at
all."

All I am pointing out is that Honda and Toyota stand as icons of
automotive industry's quality giants. Looking at that, front windshield A-
pillar facia plate becoming detached is shall we say, 'unusual.'

I am glad that your friend hasn't had any troubles. Let's hope that my
case is one of the few exceptions rather than rules. Thanks for posting
your observation.
