Timing belt

My 2000 Tl has 66,000 miles. Should I be worried about the timing belt?

Check your maintenance manual.....

I don't recall exactly when the manual says to replace it, I seem to think that it is in the 75K mileage range and something like 7-8 years.

Beyond what the manual says, you need to consider your risk/reward. IIRC, I paid an independent something like $1200-1500 and with that he also changed the water pump and all the belts. If you don't do it and the belt breaks, the risk is significant damage to the valves and possibly pistons - a much larger bill than $1500.

Like most parts on these cars, the capability of the belt is much higher than stated. I actually waited until 90K miles on my 96TL and it was like 9-10 years old. I had no problems, but YMMV.

Thanks for the info. For the record, I'm opting to go conservative. My local Honda dealer is doing the work for $399.95, and $47.00 for the outer belts. All plus tax. From what I read in this forum, that is a good price. Maybe I'll get another ten years out of my wonderfully trouble-free TL.
