Radio in 2002 Acura TL
 

I have the factory bose stereo system in my 2002 Acura TL Type S. I have the factory navigation as well. I was wondering how much of a pain it would be to try and put a different aftermarket headunit in. I have one, it is a Kenwood, but i have read that because this car has the factory sub in the back, that it would be very difficult to get that going. Also, how do you get the factory radio out to begin with?

I just put in all aftermarket stuff in my 2000 TL. It also had the Bose (junk) system but no nav. It really isnt that bad to do. I also put in a kenwood head uni with a audio controller below it. Go to Metra.com and look up your car. Click on the install kit ant it will tell you how to install everything. That web site will give you all kinds of info if you just look.

Metra does seem to have all the installation kits for most cars and head units..

Doughboy: I have your same car (02 Type S) and I was not pleased with the sound of the factory unit. I was concerned switching the head unit would mess up the Nav since I am of the opinion that the Nav sound goes through the head unit. I went a different route, Focal speakers, JBL sub, a couple of Kenwood amps and a complex EQ. This allowed me to keep the steering wheel controls and have everything look normal to would-be thieves. I am now very happy with the sound, but at the end of the day it was a pretty expensive way to go. You can get it done cheaper with a modern deck and get the USB plug in. I was told you would need to get an auxiliary speaker for the Nav though.
