I just got an '06 TL. I had the dealer install a spoiler on the trunk lid. now the trunk lid does not want to stay open. Is there a way to adjust the spring/lifting tension to make it work properly? I guess for 'ME' to do it. Thanks |
hoenstly, if the dealers installed it, i would go complain..they should have known that it was going to do this!

the've already done it. Thanks :) |
what did they do to fix the issue? stronger springs? Edited by: Patrick

Make sure they replaced the springs. When I added a spoiler to my 2002 TL it came with stronger springs.

Yes, They put the stronger springs in.

I too have the same problem and complained to my local dealer in
Libertyville, IL (IMO the worst service center in the world, lied to me on several occassions and I called them on a few catching them in the act and still no resolve). Anyhew, the trunk lid on mine, now that I have the spoiler is dangerous and has cracked me on the head more than a few times. When it snows, if there is even an inch of light snow, when you click the open trunk button it does not open (lock opens but since lid does not lift it does not open, it simply relocks). Now, I have looked up on the Internet and they said the new spoiler is supposed to come with new spings for the liftgate to properly lift it like a std trunk lid. Given my dealership's poor track record with me, I am going to go out on a limb and say they never took the time to install the new springs which, I imagine is dangerous as there is supposed to be a special tool required to install it. Given that, I may make the same assumption about your dealer. I mean if you find out new springs need to be in there and ask the question, "hey did you put the new springs in?", do you think they will say, uh nope we are idiots and forgot? Go to a different dealer like I am going to soon as I get free time in my schedule, and ask them to troubleshoot it. If you bought the wing new with the car it is supposed to carry the factory car warranty for defects. Since another dealer will not be responsible for someone else not installing the new springs, they will hopefully point this out. My suggestion is that if you still cannot get resolve and your problem is as bad as mine (safety hazard) I would file a coplaint with the BBB on the dealership. www.bbb.org It is easy, simple and straight forward. Fill out the online form with the info and they will send hatemail to the dealership. |
Don't be a victim of poor shop work and due diligence and get what you
paid for. As an engineer, this should never happen. I mean if you go to the trouble to supply new springs for the wing, why the heck would they not perform comparable to the stock one at the very least? |
