Hello,

This is my first post. I have a 2007 Acura TL Type S with 18,000 miles. I took it in for an oil change and tire rotation. They said my front brake pads needed replacement and the rotors needed turning = $500.

Couple questions:
1. Is 18,000 miles normal or even ballpark for this?
2. He said they start at 10mm and were down to 2mm - is this about right or is he pulling my chain?
3. If it is true, what other brand pads are people going with on these after the stocks are gone?

It's all in how you brake your car. 2mm is a good time to replace the pads. You might need to give yourself some more stoping distance. I've seen these brakes go to 40000 or more. Dont know if any after market pads will help here. I personaly dont beleave in after market parts. Just make sure that they measure those rotors so that they are not to thin afterwords.

500 doesn't sound to far from the price . rotors are around 125-175 each
pad set costs 75
labor around 1.5 hours to do it
some brake fluid
have the brakes flushed as well

18000 miles seams very low but then again my braking habits eat em up even faster. and my wife can get 50,000 out of hers
it all depends on how you drive

factory pads and rotors will give you the best chance of the most mileage.
after market ones are going to last longer at the cost of less braking power and squeaking
or give you more braking power at the cost of rotor life and pad life

most shops will give you free brake inspections.
go get a second opinion.
you would if your doctor said we need to remove your toe.

if you want to do the job yourself i can set you up with pads rotors and fluid. all factory stuff.
