i am new to these forums and i searched for this problem to make sure there was not another thread:

my '06 TL will not start. It is not the battery (radio, lights, nav all work fine and it will not take a jump)

when you try to start it, nothing happens at all (just a small humming noise)

any ideas?

is the green key symbol on your dash lit up when you try to start?

does it think your trying to steal it???

try different keys.

does it have aftermarket alarm (i hope not)

is that hum your fuel pump? runs for 5-10 seconds then stops???

it could be a bunch of things, but try this , with a small jumper cable ( not the one you use to jump the battery) a small one you can found at any autopart. disconnect the starter positive cable from the starter, is a small plug in the starter, and connect the jumping cable to the starter and the other end direct to the battery and see if it crank, if not is the starter. if is the starter is easy to change , do not pay $500 at the dealer. bought at ebay and do it your self!!!

acuralegend ... I think if it was the immobilizer system it would still crank. The fuel is cut off though, so it wont start. I am going to have to guess that it may be something else. We very very rarely see a starter go bad on a 04+ TL. But I can't think of what else it would be. I will check with the techs at work and see what they think.

btw... In the mean-time try another key.

I had the same problem with my 06 TL.
It was the starter, I was under warranty yet so I didn't pay for it.

I would check your battery terminals and clean both terminals really good before try to crank again. Check your battery to make sure if you have 12-14vDC. You can use your multimeter to check with that... IF all that didn't do it, then your starter is the problem... consider buy selinoide kit to rebuit (inside) the starter..that way is cheaper...
