2004 Acura TL' Fuel Grade HELP
 

I bought a 2004 Acura TL the other day and I know that the recommended is premium, and I've been filling Regular ever since, but will me filling in Regular instead of Premium gas really make the difference of the of life of the car and the way it runs ? or is it just a knock off ?
I bought this car and I put in everything I had and I'm 17.. I'd rather pay a little more now than spend a fortune later.

The real problem with using regular in stead of premium fuel is that the lower octane can cause detonation - basically where the fuel/air charge explodes before it is supposed to (when the spark plugs fire). This can cause very serious engine damage if it continues for prolonged periods. It hammers on the pistons, spark plugs, bearings, etc. and is not good for the longevity of the engine.

The good news is that the ECU (Engine Control Unit) in modern cars will adjust the timing of the ignition spark to compensate for the lower octane fuel and prevent detonation.

Bottom line is that you will not create serious engine problems by running regular grade fuel. The ECU will compensate for it. What will happen is that you will lose some engine power when the ECU compensates and that will cost you some fuel mileage - maybe 2-5 mpg.

Give the car a break from time to time and treat it to some premium fuel - you'll be glad you did.

paying premium will be a wise decision as far as i think. Rest you have to decide on your own.

In my opinion it should help in increasing milage. Rest u can cunsult any body shop.
