I have a 2000 3.2 TL and the maintenance required light is on. I went and got a diagnostic test done on it at an auto parts store and it said there was too high input from the engine temperature sensor. The engine temperature gauge shows that the engine's temp is fine (hasn't really moved up or down at all from normal running temp). So the computer is sending a richer mixture of gas into the engine, because it thinks the engine needs to be warmed up. To replace the temp sensor it would be about $50, is what they told me at the auto store. Should I get this done at the dealership? Is this something you guys have heard of happening a lot? Should I expect to pay a huge repair bill?

ok first of all a maintenance light being on olny means it is time to check your owners manual and see what is up for its current mileage maintenance ie... oil change tire rotation...inspect brakes or even as much as changing a timing belt...

second you have 3-4 temp sensors on that engine if 1 is out of limits have a second check up done.

you go to the doc with a head hurting and he says its a bad knee...you go get a second opinion

your owners manual should say how to turn off that light if your doing your own maintenance. and it will guide lines on what to do at what mileage.
