I got a 02 RSX Type-S with around 85K miles on it. I noticed that between 2400-3000 RPM there is a light squeal (almost a muffled metal-metal grinding sound). I've taken it out of gear while stationary and revved to that range and still get the noise so I don't think it has to do with the transmission or with the axle.

Sometimes its louder and sometimes its barely heard. Any clue what could be wrong?

 

I'd inspect the serpt belt for cracks and glazing....if it has not been changed might go ahead and do that.
