Great heat @ 1200 rpm’s and up. No Heat below 1200 rpm's???


Sometimes these newer cars can drive me to drinkhttp://forums.performanceyears.com/f...i/beerchug.gif Seriously though I have a 1996 Acura 3.5 RL. Coolant system has been maintained always. Car runs right in the middle of the temperature gauge consistently! Lately car will only blow hot air above 1200 rpm's but blows cold under 1200. I did some searching on the net and got some hits on climate control module, actuatorhttp://forums.performanceyears.com/f...111;nfused.gif

low coolant will do this

if the system was serviced recently you may have a air bubble in the heater core.

is your coolant rusty in color?

i have seen water pumps rust off the fins and are unable to move water as well.

I had the system flushed 6 months ago. All was ok now this.


I checked the coolentlevel last night but I had no light handy. I'll check it again to make sure it's full. Should over flow have some coolent in it?

How many miles do you have on the car?
Could your water pump be going bad... It is suggested to change your timing belt and water pump at 105k or 7 years. Another thing I would look into is thermostat.
Does your car make any different noises lately?
The air bubble is a good possibility also.
Your coolant system is designed to have coolant in the overflow at the "min" mark when the car is cold.

Timing chain was replaced with the thermostate. Water pump was not changed since it came up on 7 years with low miles. I checked the coolent system again and found nothing in the over flow tank and low coolent in the rad. I think when the shop flushed the system they did not fill everything to the correct level.

or you have a slow coolant leak. Sediment in the system could have been clogging leak points in your coolant system before you got the system flushed. When they flushed it , it may have removed (cleaned) the sediment out allowing your coolant to leak where it couldn't before due to the sediment blocking small openings.

Alright... Either take it back to them and ask them to top it off.

or... If you decide to fill it up yourself,
With the car cold, Fill the overflow to the "min" mark, and remove the radiator cap.
Start the motor. Add fluid to the radiator til it is full.
Then rev the motor a little higher (to run the water pump) bring the rpm's up to like 3000 or so and hold it there for a minute or two. Once again top off the radiator level.
*if you have a second person they can be reving the motor while you add the fluid.
replace the cap, and double check the overflow level.

I hope this works for you.

Check it periodically, to see if it is loosing fluid. If it is you know you have a more in depth problem.

I would consider replacing the water pump. and possibly getting your coolant system "pressure check"ed.
