Hey Guys

I bought a used 99 1.6 El at the beginning of last summer and the car has been running great up until now. I've been having this intermittent starting problem. When I drive the car for an hour or so, then let it sit for 1-2 hours and try to start it, it won't start. I come back a day later and it starts and runs perfectly. When it wont start, I turn the key over I can't hear the fuel pump buzzing. I had the main relay for the pump replaced and the fuel pump itself but it still does it? Any ideas?

 

Is your car a 99 1.6l EX civic? I've never heard of an EL. Check fuse 31 under your dash for a good connection this fuse powers the relay. your ECU is located behind the kick panel next to the door on the passenger side of the cabin. Your car has a wire that runs from your ECU inside the cabin to the relay under your hood it is green w/ a yellow stripe on pin A16 of ECU. check to make sure it's securley in the harness. trace that wire to the relay and look for cracks or rubbing/fraying on the wire along the way. The wire that comes out of the relay to the fuel pump is yellow w/ green stripe. check both wires where they connect the the fuse box. If that all looks good. pull your back seat and check the connections at the fuel pump. Pay extra attention to the wire that grounds the pump to the chassis. my guess is that a connection under your hood is heating up, expanding and loosening. good luck and be paitent. Intermittent electrical problems are very frustrating. take it slow and look carefully. The color codes and pins numbers are for a 99-00 civic EX D16Y8 engine.

 

EL were sold in Canada by Acura they are like the civics.
