I recently had the grinding sound in my power steering system that sounds like you are out of fluid, which I did have a leak, although the reservoir was still full. Took it to my mechanic, and he said the steering mechanism was faulty and the hose, and the replacement cost me $800! Ouch! However, I am still getting the grinding sound a week later when it's cold, then subsides almost completely once warmed up? Anyone know any history of this problem with the 04 TL? 4-door, automatic, basic model (not the higher performance model). I am taking it back in this week, but I will not pay more to have this fixed....any help is appreciated!

The part to fix your car is about $1.00. On the low side of the power steering pump is the hose called the "suction hose", it goes from the pump to the filter/reservoir. On the pump end is a small plastic fitting with one bolt holding into the pump. remove it and you will find that the o-ring is damaged. Replace it and bleed the air from the system by moving the steering wheel from lock to lock with the engine running, check the fluid level and wow - no noise.
