91 Integra LS 1.8 distributor question
My 91 Integra LS 5 speed with 160,000 miles lost power and stalled out. I could not get it to run at more than 2,000 rpm. It would restart, but I noticed a mechanical scraping noise coming from the distributor cap. I removed the cap and rotor, and there were a lot of scrapings inside the cap. Replace the cap and rotor with new parts, and the sound is even more pronounced. Plus, now the check engine light is on and the engine is backfiring through the air filter and exhaust smells like rotten eggs.
Do I need a new distributor? Is this a fairly common problem with the Integra? Could the timing have jumped, or are there possible cam issues here? Many thanks for any input or suggetions. Jedd |
