air compressor sound coming from engine area. last 3-5 seconds. it comes and goes about every 30 seconds. pulled the plugs and they were white. running lean? how do i check that? also how do i cut down the blue smoke out the exhaust? could these be connected? thanks!

 

im not sure about the sound from the engine, vacuum hose maybe? and as far as the blue smoke from the exhaust, maybe the head gasket, pull the dipstick out and see if the oil is milky or white, maybe its burning oil?
