I know this is probabaly not the place for this but it looks as though it is viewed regularly. Long story short, I need to have a new engine put in my 03 RSX. It will cost approximately $5800 to get a used engine w/around 1,000 miles on it. The next best option for used would only save me a few hundred dollars but the engine would have over 100,000 miles. I still owe 4,000 on the my Acura and the Kelley Book Price is between $8300 - 9100. I'm between a rock and a hard place and don't know what to do. At this point, I would just love to tell the Acura dealer to give me $1000 and them put the engine and sell it out right, but I don't think they are going to take it off my hands let alone pay me to do so. Any suggestions and or advice would be greatly appreciated

So it sounds like you think your car is work $1k without an engine. Have you done anything to verify that? You can try posting the car on ebay and see what you get for offers, or a better option would be to call around to some salvage yards, dismantlers, or auto aution houses to see what they think you could get.

Even if the $1k is accurate, and I'm guessing it is low, then the $5800 cost for a new engine still puts the cost of the repair and the salvage is still less than the car's full value that you quote, so that would say to fix the car. BTW, is the $5800 the cost for the engine alone or does that include the installation too.

Some other things to think about....
- What was the cause of the engine failure? Is it a factory problem? Home many miles on the engine? You might try hitting up Honda to cover at least part of the repair. Even though the car is out of warranty, if you have been keeping it maintained according to factory maintenance schedules, then there is a chance that Honda could cover part of the repair as goodwill. The engine should be able to do 200k miles easily. Ask your dealer to check with the zone rep and you should be calling/writing to Honda N.A. too.
- Have you priced the repair from an independent shop vs. the dealer. They should be able to save you 30% of the cost. This would be my second avenue to check out if Honda is not going to assist in the cost of the repair.
