I have an 04 RSX. I have two electrical outlets in the car, both of which stopped working within two weeks of each other about two weeks ago. The dealership asked if I have a Verizon phone (I do) and they told me that it's something about the verizon phone car charger that blows a fuse in the socket outlets. They said they see this a lot and for some reason their incompatible with Acuras (say what??)


But I don't think it's my phone (since I've charged it for a year without any problems). I think it's my portable GPS device, which I just started using 2 months ago, that shorts the fuse. Anywho, the dealership gave me little advice on how to fix this problem. They said "ask the manufacturer for a different charger, try it out." Right, like I want to "try anything out" and see if it breaks again so I can pay to fix it again.


Anyway, is anyone else having this problem? How does one tell which chargers will blow the fuse and which ones won't? Thanks for the help.

Interesting. The dealer may be right; the Verizon chargers may draw more current than the circuits are fused for. What you need to do is determine if the Verizon chargers have a high current draw when first plugged in or at any time during the charge cycle. Do the fuses blow at the start of the charge cycle?


If the power circuits are wired with heavy enough wire you might be able to increase the fuse size, use a slow blow fuse, or both. You better make sure of the wire capacity or you could come up with a toasted wire harness, not nice to smell. What size are the standard fuses?

Well, I'm not actually replacing the fuses myself (I go to the dealership). I've been using my Verizon and IPOD chargers for 6 months to a year now with no trouble. I just started using my gps device charger two months ago and got a problem two weeks ago. I then sat in my car after they fixed it, plugged in my gps device, and actually saw/heard the fuse blow right away as soon as I plugged it in. At the dealership, they tested out my GPS charger and told me that's the problem. They said it's too long. I've also noticed the gps charger has an extra piece of metal at the end (going up the charger it's wire, plastic charger, metal ring, plastic ring, metal tip) whereas the other chargers that cause no problems don't have the extra piece (they look like wire, plastic charger, then just metal tip).


So I think I'm going to try to find another charger that looks like the non-problem chargers that fits my gps device. This could potentially get tricky. Thanks for the help.
