I have a persistent EGR fault, code 12, that occurs on warm to hot days, but not every day and usually not till 40 or more miles of travel. I have detailed the actions and repairs completed on my Blog at:

http://mail.coastinet.com/blogs/95AcuraLegend/

I would like to exchange information with anybody who has encountered this problem with the Legend or any other Acura.

Thanks for any help,

How is overall performance?

Do you have a cat that is plugging and causing a exaust flow problem?

40miles till light comes on...that cat may be cracked and expanding incorectly after a extended drive time.

I would have a cat test performed and verified befor replacing.

Hey AL,

The Legend’s performance is great; the car simply does not perform as if it is constipated. One need only to press the pedal to the metal, and the expected happens. I just returned from a 1700 mile trip to southern <st1:State w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Oregon</st1lace></st1:State> with out a single fault indication. I drove a variety of roads from Interstate 5 to Pacific Coast Highway-1. The car ran great! Fuel economy during the trip averaged about 25 overall with two segments over 26 and 27 miles per gallon. Now that I am back commuting, and so are the faults which are just as irregular and unpredictable.

Yesterday, I re-inspected the EGR valve and rechecked its function. All still seems to be okay: it holds vacuum, the diaphragm moves and opens the valve whenvacuum is applied. I verified the exhaust and intake manifold ports were open and breathing. I didn’t check the position sensor, so I should do that, again. I did however, lubricate the valve’s actuation shaft with a high quality, nuclear grade anti-seize compound. That action seems to have been a mistake because fault indications have begun occurring continuously five miles into my work commute.

Shotgunning seems to be in order, now; I'll just have to bite another bullet andreplace the EGR valve.Edited by: alangrwd

Ok there is a EGR contro;; solinoid follow the vacume line and see if it has good source vacume and check for bad wiring.

I hate shotgunning stuff but some times it helps.

I also tend to shotgun with a gut feeling.

If that position senser is sticky or if the wiring to the comp from that sender is bad...

Maybe it will just get bad enuff to become a easy find.

This intermittent stuff is for the birds.

Just an update on the fault codes. Several weeks ago, not long enough to claim victory, I replaced the EGR Valve with a new OEM unit.

So far not more faults.
