A service manager at the local Acura dealership insists that there is no way to program a remote for my 95 Legend GS, either in his shop or having the car do it for me. [i.e. newer model cars often use an on-off ignition sequence for reprogramming] He claims that you must order a new remote from Acura and the dealer would have to order it for me.

Is this true?</span>

I have a chance to pick up two keyless entry remotes on another 95 Legend that's going to be junked because of an accident and I don't want to bother if I cannot reprogram them myself.

I found the answer! [that's the second time my impatience actually paid off when it comes to stuff like this]</span>

For the Legend, keyless entry remotes are hardwired by Acura and cannot be programmed using the signal from the keyless entry box in the car, unlike newer models.

A dealership can order a programmed remote for about $70. You just need to give them the codes on the back of the remote or the keyless entry box.

Suddenly, my in-laws having a complete key/remote set for my car is becoming increasingly unlikely.... No worries.</span>

HI i just bought a 2003 acura 1.7 el.

the car looks sweet and all.. but the remote key that comes with it.. looks like some dog chewed it so bad!

i want a new one and when i asked the dealership they said it is hard to do that.

So you are saying it only costs $70 to replace the remote key? what if i dont want a new remote key... can i get a case to cover the scratch marks with the buttons showing up through it?

I am not sure what the price would be for your 2003 Acura remote key and I'm not familiar with the newer models.

My Legend's is only $70. The dealer never said if it came with the nifty leather slip-cover or not.

If you can't find any slip-covers for your remote online you may ask the dealer if they even make them. However, many new cars simply bank on their remotes being made durable enough that a slip-cover would never be needed.

You may end up having to replace your current remote key with a new one straight from Acura, which will probably be more expensive than $70 since your car is fairly new.

Good luck!

Even if the price is over 70 bucks I would go with the dealer....a locksmith usually charges 130+ for a programmed key
