The Acura TL has moved to the top of the Acura lineup, and the official release of the new TL specs and images have people both excited and concerned. The exciting new relates to the trimlines, with the TL being offered as either a base model or as the SH-AWD model. The base model is a front wheel drive powered by a 3.5L V6 making 285 horsepower and the SH-AWD is a 305 horsepower 3.7L V6, obviously offering all-wheel-drive. All of the 2009 TLs will come with a standard 5-speed automatic transmission and the new chassis layout is stiffer for betting handling and acceleration. The styling of the 2009 TL offers some hints of the current styling, but in many ways the new TL will resemble the looks of many competitors with the seemingly random c-pillar and the long, sloping rear window and pillar merging into the trunklid. The exterior styling is clearly more aggressive than the current generation, and with slight increases in outside dimensions, the 2009 TL gains interior space and exterior bulk. We will have to wait and see if this redesigned TL, with the massive chrome Acura shield along the front and rear of the car, will meet the public with such enthusiasm as the current TL, but the time being we do know that this new, higher horsepower TL offers a step in the right direction for the Acura flagship performance sedan. |
